ABOUT ME
My name is Hadar Reiss, a professional musician specializing in Trumpet and Flugelhorn.
I began learning music at the age of 8 and started playing the Trumpet at 10. I studied classical music at the Givatayim Conservatorium and performed in its brass band. During my school years, I played lead Trumpet in various local bands and orchestras and took part in music camps for talented teenagers.
In high school, I studied classical music for four years under Zvi Ostrovsky, bass Trombonist of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra for 34 years. I graduated in 2005 from the Thelma Yallin School of Music with a major in Jazz. In 2004, I represented the school in the IAJE Congress in New York City with the Jazz Big Band and also performed with the Berklee Orchestra in Boston.
Between the ages of 16 and 23, I played in the Jazz Orchestra of Mr. Abram Felder, a veteran lead Trumpeter with whom I also studied Jazz performance and improvisation. Since 2004, I have performed annually for the City of Givatayim in Remembrance Day and Independence Day ceremonies.
In 2007–2008, I received a scholarship to study Jazz at the Rimon School of Music. During this time, I took part in the Red Sea Jazz Festival in collaboration with senior teachers from Berklee College of Music and Rimon, performing alongside leading jazz musicians such as Richard Bona, Chris Potter and Randy Brecker.
I performed in the 2007 musical “Eretz Boshet” at the Notzar Theater in Jaffa, which won first place for “Innovative New Production” by Fringe. In 2008, I played with a professional jazz ensemble for audiences in Cape Town, South Africa. Between 2006–2008, I was the lead Trumpet in tribute bands for “Blood Sweat and Tears” and “Tower of Power,” and I have performed with top jazz orchestras throughout Israel alongside artists such as Rama Messinger, Gil Shohat, Eli Gorenstein, Edna Goren, Hagit Goldberg and Leonid Ptashka.
From 2013–2015, I taught music, Trumpet and brass ensembles in elementary schools, including conductor training, ensemble management, music fundamentals and theory. Since October 2013, I have taught private and group Trumpet lessons at the Nechama Telpaz School of Music and have led workshops for children and teenagers focused on brass instruments and musical styles.
I played lead Trumpet in the musical “Evita” at Habima Theatre starring Shiri Maymon, Ran Danker and Aki Avni, which won “Best Production” of 2015. I have also appeared on radio, television and in various media.
Today, I perform in major professional productions, record in studios for singles, albums and musicals, and continue to study Jazz and improvisation with New York Trumpeter Nick Mondello. In 2016, I participated in the ITG Conference in Los Angeles for professional Trumpeters.
There are many more milestones along my journey, but these represent the core experiences that shaped my professional path.
Yours,
Hadar Reiss.
